बांधना bāṅdhnā[bāṅdh˚= Prk. बंध(इ)=S. बध्ना(ित), rt. बन्ध् ], v.t. To bind, tie, fix, fasten; to tie up, tighten; to bind up, dress (hair, etc.); to fasten or tie (on or round), bind (round), put (on, -par; e.g. ghā`o-par pulṭis bāṅdho); to chain, enchain, fetter; to take captive, enthral, captivate, bring under (one's) influence; to shut up, confine, imprison; to fix, direct, fasten (hope, eyes, aim, etc. upon, -par); to shut, close, stop (water, etc.), to embank; to arrest, hold back, check; to bind together, join together (in marriage, etc.), fasten together, put together, join, connect, conglomerate, unite, gather, pack, set (e.g. gathrībāṅdhnā; haḍḍībāṅdhnā; hāth bāṅdhnā; laḍḍūbāṅdhnā; maẓmūn bāṅdhnā); to build, construct (dam, bridge, etc.); to compose (verses); to form, produce, make, constitute (e.g. ṣaf bāṅdhnā; nīyat bāṅdhnā; samābāṅdhnā); to entertain, cherish, foster, have, contract, form (enmity, friendship, etc.); to put on, lay on, impose, levy (e.g.maḥsūl bāṅdhnā); to put on, lay (a stake, wager, etc.); to fix, erect, set up (a post, standard, etc.); to devise, contrive, plan; to make (of, -ko), constitute, regard as, compare to (e.g. tūusko tār bāṅdh, 'you regard her as, or liken her to, a palm'):—bāṅdh-denā, v.t.=bāṅdhnā:—bāṅdh lenā, v.t.
