آڑ

आड़ āṛ[S. आ+वरणor वृ ित, rt. वृ ], s.f. Covering, concealment, screen, shelter, protection, guard, shield, defence, refuge, security; prop, support, buttress; obstruction, interruption, stoppage, obstacle, hindrance, impediment, bar, barrier; fence, wall; check, restraint, prohibition; mound or bank of earth forming the boundary of a field; a horizontal or curved line painted across the forehead:—āṛ- (or aṛ)bandor bondh, s.m. A cloth worn by Hindūs, passing round the waist and between the thighs, and fastened behind:—āṛ-meṅ(-kī), adv. Under cover (of); lying in ambush; behind; across, athwart, obliquely, transversely; under the pretext or pretence (of):—āṛ-meṅ ānā(-kī), To come in the way (of); to stop the way; to come between, intervene, interpose.
