आरता ārtā[S. आरािऽक], s.m. A certain ceremony in connection with marriage among Hindūs. When the bridegroom first comes to the house of the bride he is received by her relatives, who present to him, moving it circularly round his head, a platter painted and divided into several compartments filled with rice and powder for tilak, and in the middle of which is a lamp made of flour, filled with ghī, and having several wicks lighted.
